The Advantages and Disadvantages of Ahrefs: What Can You Expect?

Ahrefs has become a popular tool to use in SEO and has been popular among marketers, business owners, and specifically with those people who are interested in improving their SEO ranking through gaining information.

Ahrefs has become the industry leader in SEO analytics and they continue to improve their model to provide the best service possible. It’s a good platform that checks a lot of boxes when you begin to use it for your SEO needs.

We wanted to highlight some of the good and bad of Ahrefs so those people interested in potentially using it can get a clear picture of what to expect. Here is what we came up with:

Advantages of Ahrefs:

One of the biggest advantages of Ahrefs is the fact that they seem to listen to their customers (especially those that have been with them for a while) and are constantly tweaking their service in order to answer requests made to them.

Someone who works in Marketing and SEO every day, Ryan Gorenflo of Mr. Roof, had specifically mentioned that they did a good job of listening and considering what customers ask of them.

“I know people who have talked directly with Ahrefs and had their recommendations considered, and that was really interesting to me. To have a platform like this, which is so important to the work we do as marketers, that can potentially be tweaked when you submit a recommendation is a huge plus for me. If I ever have an idea or have a request of some sort, it’s nice to know I could be listened to.”

Another major advantage to using Ahrefs is the amount of information they provide. You can basically get information on everything related to SEO and you can customize your requirements to get exactly what you need. In the beginning, it actually feels like there’s maybe too much information, but over time it is such an asset. Knowing you can go in and pull any type of data is really nice to know.

Keyword research is something very important when planning an SEO strategy, and Ahrefs’ ability to provide valuable keyword information is top-notch. David Curtis actually owns a marketing agency called Blue Pig Media and raved about the knowledge he can gain about keywords through Ahrefs.

“Ahrefs Keyword Explorer makes me look like a genius when working on strategies for my clients. This tool tells me how difficult it is to rank for specific keywords, recommends similar to pursue, and provides information on search volume for keywords. Within a few minutes, I usually already have a good idea of specific keywords and I always come out of it with very good insight we can use for proposals and strategies.”

Disadvantages of Ahrefs:

Like anything, there are some things to keep in mind when considering Ahrefs as an SEO tool for you and your business.

The first thing that comes to mind, and was mentioned to me repeatedly, was the price. Ahrefs is quite expensive and it will cost you some money in order to access it and use it repeatedly. Something to keep in mind.

There’s also no free trial, so you can’t really get to know the platform before paying a large amount to use it. That’s just the reality.

From looking around, the only service that people have an issue with sometimes is the reporting of traffic. Many people have referenced that it is sometimes inaccurate and lots of people depend on this information, which can be discouraging. I have noticed that sometimes their traffic report seems to be a little off, and the number they provide when compared with SimilarWebs is sometimes different, so it definitely is something to keep in mind if you choose to use Ahrefs.
